For four months, a rollercoaster ride of events hit an adorable little Beagle named Pistachio. Ever since his previous family dropped him off at an Ohio animal shelter, he has experienced many good and bad times in trying to find his fur-ever family.
Pistachio received a cancer diagnosis, but it did not stop the Beagle from enjoying his life. The adorable Beagle also became a local celebrity, and with a national superstar under his belt, he received quite a lot of perks—including having a family.
Upon Pistachio’s arrival at the shelter, one of the things he did was undergo a surgery. The shelter’s team of veterinary professionals successfully removed the inguinal hernia.
However, one of the veterinarians noticed an odd mass in the dog’s body during the operation. They decided to perform a biopsy, and results showed that the little dog had lymphoma, cancer common in dogs.
Lymphoma is a type of cancer that attacks the body’s lymph nodes and oftentimes spread to other parts of the body. Although chemotherapy is often the treatment done to address lymphoma, canine patients are often given only months up to a maximum of a few years to live.
This news broke the shelter staff’s hearts because they knew that Pistachio would not live for too long. Regardless of the tragic news, the people who knew the little dog was filled with determination to help.
Pistachio was moved to Cuyahoga County Animal Shelter where he received chemotherapy treatment, and have a more spacious kennel. Even though Pistachio has been responding positively to the chemotherapy, his caring, Pistachio’s caring and spunky personality slowly caught the country’s attention.
Pistachio appeared on various shows such as Fox 8, Hallmark Channel, and other news stations, and even met the famous Snoop Dogg. Months after his busy TV guest appearance, he also found himself a family that will give him all the love he deserves.
